WEST NEW YORK – Powered wheelchair operator traveled down busy Bergenline Ave in West New York. Instagram user, @stephania429 published two clips to her Instagram story.

The first clip showed the wheelchair bound man stopped at a red light at the intersection of 61st ST & Bergenline Ave. The second clip show the man traveling low-speed through the green light northbound on Bergenline Ave cruising past a parked West New York Police SUV.

Stephania tells #EyesOnNJ News that the police officer was with his cruiser parked on the east side of Bergenline Aves and did not make any attempt to stop the wheelchair man.

Other motorists and pedestrians can be observed in the video making zero effort to intervene or stop the dangerous act. Stephania attempted to persuade the man to get off the road and suggested to “get in the sidewalk to avoid accidents.”

She tells us the man was “very old and cranky” and replied “I’m just going to turn.” Stephania tells us the man turned left onto 62nd st heading westbound.

CEDAR KNOLLS NJ – Another clip is featured showing another power wheelchair bound person traveling north-bound on Ridgedale Ave and turning left onto Route 10 West.

Route 10 West is an 8-lane highway connecting Morris & Essex County with speed limits topping 55MPH

Is this common amongst disabled wheelchair operators?
