BARNEGAT – NJ motorist Amanda Bryant was in for a scare when she observed an aggressive accident in front of her and began recording.
What she captured showed the owner of a early 2000s Toyota Camry escape the scene of the crime in reverse and subsequently lost control tearing up the lawn, front fence and finally brought the vehicle to a stop by wiping out the front porch of the nearly 200 year old Barnegat Cox House.

Richard Peterson spoke with Jersey Shore Online via email Monday. “This is a long-term project and we do not as yet have a completion date. As for the damage sustained over the weekend, Peterson said, “[it] seems to be contained to the front steps and the wrought iron gate and fence. We are hoping the fence and gate can be repaired because replacing the historic wrought iron would likely be expensive. The county is still assessing the damage and waiting for the police report.”
