ELIZABETH – Contractor & subcontractor truckers serving the Port Newark / Elizabeth Marine Terminal are not provided masks or gloves.

The 1890 Sherman Antitrust Act was designed to prohibit activities that restrict interstate commerce and competition in the marketplace.

Edisson Villacis, President of Port Driver Association, shares exclusively with #EyesOnNJ News why the Antitrust Act doesn’t help, but instead hurts independent truckers across the country.

Villacis tells #EyesOnNJ that the Antitrust Act is not a one-size fits all rule and the limitation is preventing his team from legally educating the nearly 14,000 truckers that serve the greater NYC metropolitan area.

On May 12, hundreds of truckers gathered to protest on Continental Avenue in Washington, D.C. The street was lined with trucks parked on both sides of the multi lane road.

A protest participant in Washington, D.C. told RT America that the coronavirus helped shed light on the issues truckers have faced for years.
