NEW BRUNSWICK – Nearly 200 Concerned parents, teachers and protesters attended the February 25 New Brunswick Board of Education meeting to reject the sale of their children’s school to a developer.
Charlie Kratovil, editor of New Brunswick Today captured HD footage of the nearly 4 hour meeting. The video, provided by New Brunswick Today, showed deeply upset parents and protesters expressing their anger and frustration at the board and their approval of selling a public school to a private developer.

The Lincoln Annex School currently resides at 165 Somerset St, directly across the street from RWJBarnabas University Hospital. The site was ideated as a prime location for RWJ’s Cancer Center which would be connected via a bridge.
Christopher J. Paladino, president of DEVCO, wrote in a letter to superintendent Aubrey A Johnson “the new Cancer Pavilion – which will provide essential facilities for the research, diagnosis, treatment and care for those with cancer will be its location on a site that will allow for direct connectivity to existing facilities and the need for a site of sufficient size to support the specialized equipment and operations that will be included within the new Cancer Pavilion. The Lincoln School Annex site provides the ideal location for the development of this new facility.”
A new site location for the school has been proposed on Jersey Avenue. DEVCO claims “the City is looking to undertake two (2) major comprehensive neighborhood redevelopment initiatives along that section of the Jersey Avenue corridor.”
Parents and members of 5th & 6th Ward Neighborhood Association claim the Jersey Ave site is a contaminated waste site from prior industrial tenants and is not suitable for a school. DEVCO claims they will make every effort to ensure the land is safe.
